‘Making Tracks’
- supporting the SEND community

Making Tracks is a growing community where we welcome and support all those who come under the ‘umbrella’ of SEND. Including (and not limited to) those who identify as neurodivergent, d/Deaf, visually impaired, disabled or disabled by their environments, and/or awaiting assessments.

Ensuring inclusivity and accessibility so that the outdoors truly is for ALL.

How are we doing this?

  • We are a Makaton Aware Organisation - using Makaton signing to support our delivery across all sessions and programmes.

  • We are a member of the emerging Learning Disability Collective (Disability Cornwall and IOS).

  • We host a monthly support group, called Making Tracks, on a Saturday morning (more information can be found below). This summer we also established ‘Forest Friends’ which enabled weekly gatherings during the holidays - we hope to gain further funding to continue this in 2026.

  • We are partners with TALKmoreCORNWALL CIC, which includes regular collaborative events that use Makaton signing alongside singing and music for both enjoyment and learning.

  • We are continually developing our site at Higher Wheal Martyn to make it as accessible and as inclusive as possible. So far this has included wheelchair friendly pathways, indoor ‘light’ and ‘dark’ sensory rooms, owning a bespoke adapted tipi with an enlarged doorway, raised gardening beds, and much more! We are currently constructing further accessible outdoor furniture and landscaping areas to facilitate inclusivity and sensory inputs.

  • We are regularly showcasing and sharing the many ways we can all be more accessible and inclusive in our provisions, sites and attitudes. By educating, inspiring and role-modelling to others, we hope that we can ensure the outdoors truly is for ALL.
